This June was a pretty packed month for rap, with releases from Future, Open Mike Eagle, Casey Veggies, Kash Doll, Polo G, Tee Grizzley, GoldLink, J. Cole, Kamaiyah, Lil Keed, Drake, Migos, the new XXL Freshman Class, Lil Nas X, Benny the Butcher, Gucci Mane, Mike, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Mustard, and even Twista, but the most anticipated project of the month was no doubt Bandana, the second collaboration between Freddie Gibbs & Madlib.

The earlier single, “Flat Tummy Tea,” was already Verse of the Month back just this past February, and contenders such as Black Thought on the Benny the Butcher record or even Twista’s dazzling speed on “Smoke On By” put up a good fight, but Gibbs is back with another title on “Practice,” displaying both dexterous flow and meaningful subject matter. Addressing the rumors of his infidelity, this track towards the second-half of the record displays my favorite introspective-side from Freddie Gibbs, and the amazing production from Madlib certainly doesn’t hurt.
