Mavis Staples, the legendary R&B/Gospel singer, swung by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week  to talk about her time with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the very first song she ever sang, and her new album, If All I Was Were Black, due out 11/17/17. Staples worked on the album with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and The Late Show‘s very own John Batiste, and performed one of Tweedy’s songs “Build A Bridge” following the interview.
