Desiigner may sound like a drunk seal, but following the release of “Panda,” Kanye’s Life of Pablo, “Timmy Turner,” and being signed to G.O.O.D. Music, the rap world couldn’t stop talking about the new 19 year old rapper, whether it was good press or not (a lot of people compared him to Future and called him a copycat).
Of these new trap-rappers we also have the top three: Lil Yachty, Young Thug and Travis Scott, coming into their own in 2016. I don’t really care for any of them, but hey, one man’s opinion I guess. Lil Yachty, the fad, Young Thug, the “fashion-forward” misogynist, and Travis Scott, the Kanye sound-alike/Kid Cudi wannabee, have come to dominate rap music in the latter half of 2016. Right when it looked like Chance and Anderson .Paak were the new sound of rap, these kids showed up and flipped it in the other direction. We might have a rap sound war on our hands for 2017, but not if my wildest dreams come true.
Regardless of any of these trapper’s potential, one thing was for certain, it brought T-Pain back. Making the hottest “Panda” remix of them all (watch below), T-Pain returned to the music world, featuring on huge projects all over the rap community (from Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book to Dreezy’s No Hard Feelings). Please 2017 bring me a T-Pain record so he can show these new trappers who the original king was.
