Curren$y makes so many mixtapes a year, who has time to listen to all of these? A record for every month? The ratio of good songs to songs made is only like 1:100. Whatever happened to the good days of Curren$y? I miss the Pilot Talk and Stoned Immaculate days. Now Curren$y sounds too high to make anything other than mumbling. It’s weed-rap gone too far.

ty-dolla-ign2Ty Dolla $ign was one of the most featured artists of 2016, right behind Anderson .Paak, Jeremih, Gucci Mane, and Chance the Rapper. His debut Free TC got a little more hype last year than I think it deserved, but if his track record has anything to prove (“Fade” by Kanye West, “Bacon” by Nick Jonas, “Circles” by Pusha T, “Jam” by Kevin Gates, and the Black Eyed Peas “Where Is The Love (Remix)”), Dolla shows a lot of promise purely based on involvement in the industry. What becomes apparent on Campaign however, besides a lack of political themes that I thought would be present, is that there are people making the same kind of music as Ty Dolla $ign already doing it better. For example: Travis $cott and Future, who are also both featured here. Maybe one day will be the day for an amazing Ty Dolla solo project, but not this year.
