Like it or not, “Panda” is a hit song. Would it have been without “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2?” I don’t think so, but regardless it was. Hoping to see something great come from the fake-Future-new-GOOD Music signee, he was chosen to be in XXL’s 2016 Freshman Class. With one song under his belt, for the life of me I wouldn’t be able to tell you how he got there. Honestly, I don’t even know how most of them got there. Lil Dicky might have been the only one to kill his quote-on-quote “freestyle,” but other than just because it’s one of his best verses from “Bruh,” I was very un-impressed with this years XXL’s freshman. If you haven’t seen Desiigner’s solo video yet, seemingly about everyone’s favorite little kid with fish that grant him every wish, I suggest you subject yourself to whatever it was.

Dropping his debut tape, New English, it was time for Desiigner to prove himself. Sadly, he did not at all, releasing what Matthew Ramirez of Pitchfork described as sounding like “the last five years of hip-hop watered down.” Giving the tape a listen, I put my notes up from the listening up on Roseandblog’s Twitter page:

Apparently what I thought was making fun of Desiigner, and how I can never understand anything he says, turned out to either come as a good laugh-at-yourself to Desiigner or just a pity-like because he was mentioned. Either way, Desiigner himself “liked” it.

New English was a pretty boring and uneventful mixtape, sounding nothing like what I hope a language called “new english” is, but if I got anything out of this, “Liked by Desiigner” is a pretty good mixtape name and/or social network bio.
